How does the oral appliance prevent obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring?

An oral appliance works prevents Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Snoring by:

  • Repositions and stabilizes the lower jaw and tongue while also repositioning the soft palate and uvula
  • Increases the muscle tone of the tongue
  • The soft tissues and tongue are prevented from collapsing, which keeps the airway open and unobstructed and also halts snoring.

Through the above actions, the tissues and tongue are prevented from collapsing in keeping the airway open and unobstructed. Since air flows freely into the lungs, the forced flow of air and vibrations of the tissue (known as snoring) do not occur.
